Bear with me as I exposition dump a bit. Jon always does a killer job at these perfunctory scenes of plot development. I think one reason he is so deft at energizing a exposition scene is due to his literary hero, Raymond Chandler.

Chandler would type on half-sheets of letter paper, turned sideways in the typewriter, which was basically the same size as the pages in a finished novel. And he made sure that there was a clever turn of phrase, an exciting plot development or an evocative metaphor on every page.

I think that Jon accomplished that here. What was to me just a routine bridge scene became a solid piece of character development, along with a few witty moments on this double page spread.
