When we were discussing this scene, it became clear that walking the razor edge between suitably reverent to FDR and slapstick was going to be a challenge. And I believe that Jon and Dexter nailed it.

A little backstory: Franklin Delano Roosevelt is one of Jon’s biggest influences and heroes. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I adore FDR, but I’m nowhere as knowledgeable as Jon.

So I delegated this to him, and just look at what he did. There is such gravitas and warmth in the way Jon captured FDR’s voice.
